The Absolute Sound Super Disc List TAS Harry Pearson Super LP List
Albeniz's Suite Espanola are, like many of his piano pieces, miniature tone pictures of different geographical regions and musical idioms of Spain.
"I would find the Albeniz LP reissue as an easy recommendation on musical grounds alone, but fortunately I can report that as good as the music is, the sound is even better. Dynamic swings are massive, tonal shading is accurate, percussion is deep and thunderous, and the sense of space is realistic. The orchestra is layered both front to back and side to side, and there is a sense of the venue's space all around. If I had to carry just one LP to audition equipment with, this would be my choice."
"The challenge is to preserve the complex transcriptions in stellar performances in an excellent recording, and this 1967 effort conducted by the transcriber of the music, and in the rich acoustics of London’s Kingsway Hall certainly meets the challenge. A local NW conductor said he has had few “you are there” experiences with recordings that truly transport one to the concert hall - and this is one of them." Audad Review
