The Bruckner interpretations by Herbert von Karajan and the Berliner Philharmoniker are legendary - especially those of the nine symphonies in the recordings from 1975 to 1981. To mark the 200th anniversary of Anton Bruckner's birth, Deutsche Grammophon is reissuing this legendary cycle on vinyl in a limited and numbered 17 LP set. Following the example of the highly successful Original Source Series, all analogue recordings (Symphonies 4-9) have been remastered and edited in pure analogue by the outstanding team Rainer Maillard and Sidney C. Meyer at Emil Berliner Studios, using a machine specially set up for the original 8-track recordings. The Symphonies Nos. 1, 2 and 3, which are digital recordings from 1980 and 1981 respectively, were also remastered and edited by the same team, optimizing the digital sound. The production is once again in the proven hands of Optimal.
The set presents each symphony in its own sleeve with work description adapted from the respective first release. In a further insert, which also contains the liner notes of the first complete release from 1980, photos and recording documentation, Rainer Maillard explains in detail which materials were available to Emil Berliner Studios and how these were used to achieve optimum sound quality.
