At the time he recorded this album in 1957, Arnett Cobb was in the process of rebounding from a serious Car  accident that broke both his legs. Cobb's indomitable spirit shines through in these tracks, whether he is calmly preaching on "When My Dream Boat Comes Home," grooving down the "Lonesome Road," or roaring through the song that is almost as closely associated with him as it is with Illinois Jacquet, "Flying Home."

There are plenty of good blues, too, and pianist Ray Bryant'seloquence in this idiom is well exposed. Ray Barretto's conga adds another flavor to the rhythm section, especially on "Cocktails for Two." With Ray BryantWendell MarshallArthur Taylor and Ray Barretto.

Tenor saxophonist Arnett Cobb, who was inactive between 1957 and 1958 due to a serious auto accident, recorded three strong albums for Prestige during the first half of 1959. This CD reissue is the only one of the trio that features Cobb as the only horn and backed by a pianist (Ray Bryant) instead of an organ player. With bassist Wendell Marshall, drummer Art Taylor and Ray Barretto on conga completing the group, most of the focus is on Cobb's tough yet flexible tenor. Such songs as "When My Dreamboat Comes Home," "Blues in the Closet" and a remake of "Flying Home" make this the definitive Arnett Cobb album from the era. Highly recommended.
