Esbjörn Svensson - piano
Dan Berglund - double bass
Magnus Öström - drums

The recordings were made live on 20 May 2005 at the Barbican Center in London by "fourth band member" Ake Linton.

When Esbjörn Svensson was fatally injured while scuba diving on 14 June 2008, the music world lost one of its very big artists, one who played a key role in shaping contemporary jazz from the late 1990s. Much was unique to Sweden, born in 1964. At the same time, his tradition of Keith Jarrett's playing is initially nothing out of the ordinary for a pianist of his generation. On the one hand, Svensson was able to clarify and consolidate this, on the other hand he enriched it with manifold influences, also from popular music. He borrowed the hypnotic effects of repetitive passages from electronic music, the massive rebellions of rock and metal, the sensitive play with the silence of ambient and minimal music. Esbjörn Svensson had an incredibly wide musical horizon. Despite all this, he remained jazzed for him. This fascinated audience like fellow musicians and a whole generation of young jazz musicians jealously followed him, so Michael Wollny or Ethan Iverson, the influence of the Swedish is clearly felt.

Equally unusual in Sevensson's trio was its consistency, because with Dan Berglund on bass and Magnus Öström on drums, the trio always had the same cast, the three musicians were completely matched. Also Svensson's search for the perfect sound, embodied by the sound technician Ake Linton as a "fourth band member", who completed the trio both in the studio and live, is rarely found. The Esbjörn Svensson Trio was famous for its intensive concerts and everyone who was lucky enough to enjoy one of them can count himself lucky. The remainder remain only live recordings and the label ACT, it is thanks to the fact that now a very special of these is available in excellent edition on vinyl. In the sold-out London Barbican Center, the EST played an acclaimed set on May 20, 2005, its most successful album "Viaticum" was just released (also on ACT). The concert was simply magical, as every moment of the album reveals, and it has what it takes to become a true classic.

Just in time for the Highend 2018, "Live In London" is our trade fair highlight and also available on our stand, after that, of course, also in the regular program. Esbjörn Svensson Trio - "Live In London" should be featured in every vinyl collection!
