Audio Note - ANM1601LP - 180 Gram Virgin Vinyl
The sound is neither overly warm nor 'clinical' cool, but simply neutrally natural—nothing hints at any 'digititis'. Contrary to most music labels, was wise enough to conserve the full frequency response, and vast dynamic range of the recording, not compressing in any direction the session. High praise also must be credited to Hébert, and Ritch for the fine mastering, engineer Gosselin at Le Lab Mastering for skillfully cutting the master lacquer, and the artist himself for refusing to settle for anything less than the best. A must-have in any collection. Kudos to all! Positive Feedback
It is by far the best cello recording I have heard regarding sound, and Bélanger's passionate execution of this rarely recorded repertoire, makes it just as enjoyable from a musical standpoint–running the full gamut of emotive range, from mere melancholy to bold bowing bravura, with every (Audio) Note breathing in between. A must-have in any collection - Soundava
The Canadian cellist Vincent Bélanger is not completely unknown to lovers of high-quality music reproduction. Together with Anne Bisson he published the album Conversations in 2016, which not only pleased Bisson fans, but also drew attention to his virtuoso playing. On the other hand, Bélanger has also been an »ambassador« of the British hi-fi manufacturer Audio Note since 2016. He has since been accompanied at trade fairs with live demonstrations.
It is exactly this manufacturer has released his first LP on his own label with Pure Cello. The album was written with a two-year preparation period and contains the elite etudes of FW Grützmacher truly challenging cello pieces, which were recorded here for the first time. Bélanger's game is beyond doubt. Trained in Canada and France, the musician has participated in masterclasses with Yo-Yo Ma and Lluis Claret, and provides Pure Cello with first-rate proof of his skill.
