This wonderful recording of 1975, which is already to be expected for the second half of the career of Ida Haendel, and therefore has a certain rarity, entered the Polish-British violinist but from the 60s hardly a studio, not only impresses with aural and musical excellence, but also through the repertoire selection: the violin concerto by Jean Sibelius is now mandatory for every violinist who holds something in his own - far less well-known and all the more pleasing to hear here are his Humoreske No. 5 and above all the two serenades for violin and orchestra Pur 69. Ida Haendel radiates here with a vocal tone and emotional seriousness, the often underrated Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra under Paavo Berglund (who could conduct Sibelius better than a native Finn?) thrills with ethereal floating sound. It's worth it! wv
