In fact, carrying the first of the two recital albums Ida Haendel recorded for its 50th anniversary around the British EMI, a misleading title - "A Baroque Recital "would be correct. The program is opened by Fritz Kreisler's adaptation of Arcangelo Corelli's "La Folía" Variations from his sonata Op. 5, No. 12. One is immediately caught by this incomprehensibly sweet (but never sweetish) Geigenton. The nuances of this tone are even more evident in the following Nardini sonata (in the version edited by Haendel's teacher, the legendary Carl Flesch):

The moments, when suddenly the volume is reduced within the same note, are always goosebumps. Tartini's famous "Devil's Stringed" sonata begins with a larghetto, which has rarely been so touchingly heard; In the final movement, the highest virtuosity is combined with the maximum musical expression. The most beautiful of all is, as always, the end: a recording of the Vitali-Chaconne (anyway one of the most wonderful pieces of the Baroque violin repertoire), one of the greatest in the genre of Heifetz and Francescatti. It must, of course, be noted that all this is conceivably far away from a historically "correct" interpretation, for Ida Haendel's approach is through and through that of the great romantic violin tradition. Anyone who is serious about the lyrical expressive power of Haendel's play, has not understood, however,
