Of the several Blue Circle pieces I have reviewed, the Fon Lo Thingee is easily Gilbert’s most impressive and creative component to date. Granted, the appearance suggests all manner of crude sewer pipe jokes but these particular pipes keep the crap out and only pass on the good stuff. The aesthetics might not appeal to everyone but it is difficult to argue with the price. Regardless of configuration, the Fon Lo Thingee offers terrific value that will provide plenty of musical enjoyment for those on a tight budget - and excellent upgrade options
In a review such as this one, in which I praise a product for its good value, I always wonder how a company manages such high performance at such low cost. Not so with Blue Circle Audio’s Fon Lo Thingee. One look at it and there’s absolutely no question where costs have been trimmed. In fact, the FLT’s biggest problem could be that many potential buyers won’t give it the time of day because it doesn’t look "high-end" enough. Too bad for them. Appearances can be deceiving, and that applies here. - 6Moons
But those willing to get past the Fon Lo Thingee’s no-frills looks to just hear how good it sounds might be rewarded: the performance of their systems might be taken to the next level for very little money. This unusual-looking little component is the best-sounding bit of budget hi-fi I’d heard in a very long time -- an exceptional value. The Fon Lo Thingee might not look like much, but it sounds like a million bucks. - Goodsound
Over all it is hard not to recommend the Fon Lo Thingee not just for audiophiles on a strict budget but also for more affluent audiophiles looking for exceptional value who are not concerned about the cosmetics of their phone stage. As I said at first I kept it out of sight, later I proudly displayed it. Long live the Fon Lo! - Positive feedback
It’s a phonostage in a couple, or three, drain pipes. Actually it’s four phonostages. Confused? We'll explain. But first why would we do this? Because entirely too many people have said our phonostages are too expensive and out of their price range. It bothers us that people are doing without quality vinyl reproduction because it's out of their price range. Since we have done a few things in drain pipe that have proven very successful then why not do a phonostage in a drain pipe? -performance without the extra cost of expensive cosmetics.
How did we design it? Simple, take the input stage of the BC703, combine it with the output stage and RIAA equalization circuit of the BC707 wrap it in a brass sheild inside a 2" ABS pipe. Sounds simple but it actually took a little more work than that but this is an easy to understand version of the story.
Now to unfuzzify the confusion. Fon Lo Thingee comes in four different combinations. They are upgradeable from the basic to the top. Here are the combinations starting from the basic model...
First, the Fon LO Thingee all by itself. It's just a paper weight without one of the five power supplies .
