Eivind Aarset's Électronique Noir was the third album released on Bugge Wesseltoft's new label, Jazzland Recordings. It made the Norwegian guitarist out of nowhere one of the most important voices in European jazz in 1998.
"Electronique Noir was incredibly important to me," Aarset later recalled. "Here I was able to experiment as much as I wanted, using my roots as a rock guitarist playing harder and louder than I did in my heavy metal days, using my experience with improvised music, and being able to turn to my more lyrical side. "
Electronique Noir is considered a classic today. Label colleagues Bugge Wesseltoft and Nils-Petter Molvær can be heard as guests. "The title Electronique Noir says everything about the album: it's cinematic music, meditative, dark, electronic," says Eivind Aarset.
