Zach Condon recorded his debut album with Beirut at the age of 18. A decade on, he’s releasing his fourth album through his original label, 4AD. No No No was recorded over an intense two-week period during a cold, snowy winter in New York City after Condon was experiencing health issues and the breakdown of a relationship, yet it’s surprisingly chipper in its sound.
The album is a little more back-to-basics in its arrangements: although the diverse instrumentation that has always defined Beirut’s worldy indie pop still appears in grandiose songs like ‘So Allowed’, the backbone of the songwriting is formed using a simple rock band setup (guitars, bass, drums, piano)
