"Une symphonie imaginaire", a "symphony" of seventeen overtures and ballets, is, as it were, the bow to the greatest opera composer in France: Jean-Philippe Rameau (1683-1764). Who would be more predestined for this "tribute" than a countryman who lives the French musical tradition! The young French conductor Marc Minkowski is one of the most dazzling personalities of early music and has been overwhelmed by numerous awards since his first recording of Rameau's "Hippolyte et Aricie", including an Echo of the Record Academy Tokyo 2002 as well as a prize of the German record critics 2003.
The outstanding live recording from the Théâtre de Poissy from 2003 breathes elegance, nonchalance and pure joie de vivre. "Les Musiciens du Louvre", which consistently play on original instruments, transforms the music of Rameau into a true firework of the sounds. Baroque opulence, coupled with a thrilling playfulness, a colorful orchestral sound and a revolutionary use of the instruments for their time are also a feast for the senses today!
