English-born pianist and composer Matthew Bourne, born in 1977, is a multi-award-winning cross-border commuter who, on his own or together with colleagues such as John Zorn, Nils Frahm and Amon Tobin, has given his diverse stamps his free stamp. The cooperation with the two nightport producers Adam Martin (Leeds) and Mark Slater (Hull) is no exception. 

No wonder, the Nightports project is based on the agreement to work alone with sounds that are created by the participants at the moment of making music. Although this still corresponds to the good, old live idea, however, at Nightports the sounds are manipulated and alienated in every way imaginable.

Their recordings were spread over three sessions in two locations: Matthew Bournes's secluded country home in West Yorkshire (March 2015) and Besbrode Pianos in Leeds (October 2015, June 2016). Historically important and unique keyboard instruments of the last 120 years were used. 

The album is the prelude to a series of collaboration works by the label Leaf, which is dedicated to previously unheard piano sounds. And casually surpassing traditional listening habits overboard.
