The Grado Sonata also did a fine job of playing more complex LPs, such as Classic Records' mono reissue of Roy Orbison's In Dreams. It captured all the lovely details in the arrangement without making them small or mechanical, and the electric bass, though sounding just a bit softer than it should have, was still pacey and tuneful, not to mention downright pretty. And if you still don't think mono can be spatially impressive, you should hear how the Grado handled the layering in "Shadaroba": Despite not being strung out between the speakers, all the instruments were distinct from one another, with even some suggestion of relative scale. Very darn nice, and a lot more than I ever thought $650 would buy. Stereophile

The Sonata 2 models use a modified four piece OTL cantilever technology achieving a 10% tip mass reduction over the Prestige series and ultra-high purity long crystal (UHPLC) oxygen free copper wire in the coils. The Platinum2 model uses Grado's specially designed elliptical diamond mounted on a brass bushing, and the Sonata2 model uses Grado's specially designed nude elliptical diamond

All Statement Series 2 cartridges offer a low mass generating system, and a diamond cut specially for Grado.. All this is hand-assembled within a machined, Australian Jarrah wood housing.  The low frequency information and its portrayal of bass dynamics are solid, powerful and authoritative. The midrange is rich, complex and highly believable. Its top-end seems to extend forever with speed and remarkable delicacy. Imaging is detailed and precise with a sound stage that wraps its arms around you and draws you into the music.

GRADO is one of the oldest family-owned companies in the audio industry and has for almost half a century been a leader in design engineering for the high-end audio and recording industries. Renowned for their remarkable headphones and phono cartridges, the company holds over 48 patents and company founder, Joseph Grado, is credited as the inventor of the stereo moving coil phono cartridge. All GRADO cartridges are hand made to GRADO's full performance specifications. Acclaimed by experts as virtually the finest pickups in the world at their price points, nothing leaves the factory unless it sounds pure GRADO     In 1963 Grado was focusing everything into creating the worlds best phono cartridges. Grado Labs stopped the production of all the other products and, for just over 20 years, concentrated on cartridges. Phono cartridge design was improved dramatically in 1976 when truly top quality cartridges were first made with the supervision of Joseph Grado Signature Products. The newly created cartridges were well received and were given a price tag of $1,000 - the first to be sold for that amount. & recently we introduced the $12,000 Epoch Range
