Poppy Ackroyd is a British musician and composer. She studied piano at the University of Edinburgh. After graduation Ackroyd became a member of the Hidden Orchestra. On her debut album "Escapement" (2012), she played piano and violin against the background of field recordings - although playing is quite a stretch to be understood, as she manipulates her piano with unusual means. These include plucking, tapping, painting and sawing.

On her second album "Feathers" (2014) she also played clavichord, harpsichord, spinet and harmonium. Ackroyd's recordings are well-known to brothers in the spirit of Ludovico Einaudi, Philip Glass, Nils Frahm, Silvain Chauveau, Max Richter and Hauschka, all of whom are assigned to the broad field of Minimal Music, Modern Classical, electronic and pop music. Beyond her own work, she also writes music for dance performances, theater, film and radio.
