The Alehouse Sessions by the Norwegian violinist Bjarte Eike and his ensemble Barokksolistene give an insight into the versatile music in English taverns of the 17th century.

This concert program tells the story of a turbulent era in music history with a colorful mix of Purcell suites, shanties and some Scandinavian folk songs. Brilliant Baroque soloists conjure up the harsh atmosphere in the pub of an English port city around 1690.

"Alehouse Sessions" concerts were described by The Times as "irresistible" and celebrated by The Guardian as "unbelievably unrestrained," and they also transformed the traditional concert format into a "nocturnal jam session" (BBC Music Magazine).

Bjarte Eike sees the peculiarity of his recent project in the interaction between the musicians on stage and the audience. If you look for the historical context, it can be found in the theater of Shakespeare with its close proximity between spectators and actors.
