Just fit the disc on your platter and align using the simple printed graph based on the Baerwald alignment curve.

You will never realize the full potential of your cartridge without the proper set-up tool.

For Over 30 Years, the Geo-Disc has Been the Most Accurate and Most Affordable Alignment Gauge!

Phono cartridge alignment tool

Mobility Fidelity Sound Lab's Geo-Disc is the perfect complement to its series of limited edition original master recordings. Both will markedly improve the sonic performance of your stereo playback system. The high fidelity pleasures of original master recordings, even the audio content of conventional records, cannot be totally realized in your phonograph pickup apparatus (stylus/cartridge) if it is not aligned accurately. This is where the Geo-Disc is essential.

With extensive research and development, the Geo-Disc features a proprietary 3D visual system that delivers incredibly precise, uncomplicated, rapid and economical cartridge alignment. Mobile Fidelity's Geo-Disc is an LP sized platter that provides a very accurate spot for adjusting the cartridge overhang, and has visual gridlines for properly adjusting the offset angles. It's a lot easier to use than those flimsy plastic templates or paper cutouts that come with a lot of turntables. Just fit the disc on your platter and align using the simple printed graph based on the Baerwald alignment curve.

Features

  • Tracing error-loss of subtle details in the recording
  • Tracking distortion-break up of high acceleration information
  • Frequency response distortion-loss of some areas in the audio band
  • An effective and extremely accurate way to align your turntable cartridge

Finally available again after too long an absence, the GEO-DISC is easy to use and extremely accurate cartridge alignment device. Simply put the MFSL GEO-DISC on your platter as you would a record and align your cartridge using the simple printed graph based on the Baerwald alignment curve. It's that easy! Our highest recommendation!

Directions for Use:
1. Mount cartridge in headshell but do not tighten mounting screws completely; balance arm and set recommended tracking and anti-skate forces.
2. Place Geo-Disc on Turntable.
3. Move your eye close to the sight-line ("A-B") and sight along the small ridge atop ("A-B"); rotate the Geo-Disc so that the ridge points directly at the center of the tonearm lateral pivot point. Then use a piece of adhesive tape to keep Geo-Disc from turning.
4. To set proper overhang, adjust cartridge in headshell so that, when gently lowered onto grid ("C"), the stylus rests directly in the small indentation in the center of the white circle on the grid ("C").
5. For proper offset angle, look at the front and sides of the cartridge body relative to the grid; raise stylus off Geo-Disc and twist cartridge in the headshell so that front and sides of cartridge are squared with the grid. Recheck Step #4.
6. Final offset angle is achieved by sighting along line ("D-E") - the stylus shaft should appear to be in line with ("D-E"). If not, twist the cartridge to the proper position. Recheck #4.
7. Tighten mounting screws. Recheck Step #5.overhang.

Special Note: Works with Straight-Style and S-Shaped tonearms.

The Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab (MFSL) famous Geodisc is now available separately. It is arguably one of the best cartridge alignment tools in the world and unbeatable value. A must have accessory for anyone who owns a turntable.

The smallest differences in cartridge alignment from the optimal position can have a huge impact on the sound of your cartridge. The Geodisc is arguably the most effective and an extremely accurate way to align your turntable cartridge. Simply fit the disc to the platter and align your cartridge using the printed graph and, which is based on the Baerwald alignment curve.

The smallest differences in cartridge alignment from the optimal position can have a huge impact on the sound of your cartridge. Its not possible to realise the full potential of a cartridge without a proper alignment tool, and is likely the best tool available.

Reviews

'Accurate and extremely simple to use this is a reasonably priced gauge that does a great job with the minimum of fuss' (Hi-Fi Choice magazine April 2013)

'The Geo-Disc is simple to use and very accurate. Just fit the disc onto your platter, line up a moulded ridge so that it points at the centre of the tonearm pivot, move the tonearm and adjust the cartridge overhang so that the stylus tip can rest in the recess and align the cartridge using the grating printing around the recess. As a final check, the shaft of the stylus is sighted against a second moulded ridge to ensure it is correctly aligned. The end result should minimise excessive sibilance and can improve imaging' (Hi-Fi Choice magazine April 2013)

Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab has been the undisputed pioneer and leader in audiophile recordings since the company's inception in 1977. Established by dedicated audiophiles, Mobile Fidelity's first and foremost goal was to offer faithfully reproduced high fidelity recordings that would complement the numerous advances occurring in audio delivery systems. Throughout its history, Mobile Fidelity has remained true to this goal, pioneering state-of-the-art technologies and setting audiophile standards that remain in place today.

GAIN 2 Ultra Analog™ is a proprietary cutting system built and designed by legendary design genius Tim De Paravicini, with consultation from one of MFSL’s founding fathers – Stan Ricker, an audio engineer responsible for many of MFSL’s most heralded past releases.

The GAIN 2 Ultra Analog™ system is comprised of a Studer™ tape machine with customized reproduction electronics* and handcrafted cutting amps that drive an Ortofon cutting head on a restored Neumann VMS-70 lathe. (*It is worth noting that independent studies have confirmed that the GAIN 2 Ultra Analog™ system can unveil sonic information all the way up to 122kHz!)

First and foremost, we only utilize first generation original master recordings as source material for our releases. We then play back master tapes at half speed enabling the GAIN 2 Ultra Analog™ system to fully extract the master’s sonic information. Our lacquers are then plated in a specialized process that protects transients in the musical signal. (Due to this process, there may be occasional pops or ticks inherent in initial play back, but as the disc is played more, a high quality stylus will actually polish the grooves and improve the sound). We further ensure optimum sound quality by strictly limiting the number of pressings printed for each release. These limited editions, in addition to being collectors’ items, ensure that the quality of the last pressing matches the quality of the first.

As you can imagine, all these efforts involve a tremendous amount of time, technology, cost and effort. The introduction of GAIN 2 Ultra Analog™ maintains Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab’s position as the world’s leading audiophile record label, where a passion for music with extraordinary sound quality matters most.
