Creative and sophisticated jazz that takes listeners, what more could you want?" (LP Magazin, 1/2017)

The New York Quartet of the German jazz pianist Johannes Mössinger has been in various positions for almost fifteen years. In addition to Karl Latham on the drums and Calvin Jones on the bass, Ryan Carniaux has been playing the trumpet since 2015. In this group the quartet was in front of the microphones at the studio concert of Bauer Studios for direct recording. Undaunted and versed, the four musicians put on improvisatory splendor, as they rarely trust in a live recording. Many a piece, reported Mössinger in the Liner Notes, had never been rehearsed in the cast. And when the composer Mössinger in his "Suite 4-2-5" reveals his inclination to modernity, classical music and impressionism, one can only be astonished.

"The studio concerts of Neuklang have always impressed the audience with what great recording techniques are capable of.

The jazz pianist Johannes Mössinger and his high-caliber New York Quartet recorded a tadellose concert at the Bauernstudios , which is published in the STUDIO CONZERT vinyl edition, during the Ludwigsburger Jazztage 2015 . Together with three stars of the New York jazz scene - the trumpeter Ryan Carniaux , the contrabassist Calvin Jones and the drummer Karl Latham -, free-jazz-like numbers with drifting rhythms were played alongside lyrical ballads and grandiose through-composed plays by Johannes Mössinger. Together, the quartet creates a thrilling music that is characterized by its density, intensity, Melody and above all by its claim. With infectious playfulness, impressive improvisational talents and a perfect match to his fellow musicians, Johannes Mössinger can be heard on the recording not only on the Steinway concert grand piano, but also on the Fender Rhodes. In doing so, he and his New York Quartet succeed not only in creating their own unmistakable sound but also in dissipating the audience into various and, above all, varied, musical worlds.
