Official replacement drive belts for all Pro-Ject turntable models

Drive Belts are used on all Pro-Ject turntables as the method by which the turntable platter rotates. In many cases the belt turns a sub-platter, which sits underneath the main platter - like with the multi-award winning Debut record player. However, there are also other turntables that use a belt which reaches around the perimeter of the main platter itself - avoiding the need for a sub-platter. All Pro-Ject drive belts are made of the highest quality materials, and are optimised to work with certain turntables from the Pro-Ject range.

To extend the life of your drive belt, avoid touching it with your hands as much as possible. Once mounted, use the Speed Key provided with Pro-Ject turntables to change the rung of the pulley.

It is important that you source the correct belt for your turntable

Drive Belts enable the platter to rotate at a constant speed seems simple.

Old or Worn drive belts can affect sound quality

( Wow ) slow speed variations & ( Flutter ) high speed variations , incorrect pitch & timing

However, lurking beneath this seeming simplicity, there are critical and complex demands. Belt material matters because: It must turn the platter at a constant speed without instantaneous stretching under the varying drag loads of the cartridge when it hits loud and complex passages of music. This affects dynamics to a noticable extent.

At the same time it needs to smooth high frequency speed fluctuations from the motor.
It must damp vibration fed into the belt by the motor.
It needs to both grip and decouple the motor pulley

Belt drive turntables require turntable belt replacement. This timeframe can vary from a few years to Decades or more depending on the belt’s quality, turntable usage, and environmental conditions. Although there are a handful of common belts that many turntables use, there are hundreds of different belts out there, and it is very important that you purchase the correct belt for your specific turntable. Incorrect belts will not usually perform properly and can even cause long-term damage to your turntable.

A turntable will generally let you know when it needs a new belt, because it will a. not play, b. play too slowly, or c. not perform certain functions such as speed changing (33 to 45 to 78). Old belts can get very stretchy and eventually turn into a sticky gooey mess that is very difficult to remove. Alternatively, they can simply crumble into dust.
