Escapement was the first solo album of the classically trained musician and composer Poppy Ackroyd (piano, violin). It was published in 2012, the mastering took over at the time Nils Frahm.

Certainly not without reason, because their two purely instrumental musical designs are quite close. On the seven pieces of "Escapement" Ackroyd plays not only against the background of sparingly used field recordings - on the Outer Hebrides and in the north of Scotland recorded bird calls - violin and piano, but strokes, plucks, taps and scrapes them unconventionally using a pick or E-Bows and thus elicits the two instruments quite unfamiliar sounds.

However, this rather experimental sound production does not produce any harsh background noise, but rather wistful-friendly, ascetic-filigree and gently unfolding and overlapping soundscapes with a meditative touch. Partly reminiscent of the neoclassical and minimal music of Max Richter, Hauschka, Silvain Chauveau or even Nils Frahm.
