Analogue Productions - CAPC 2436 SA - Hybrid SACD Multichannel

"On the Analogue Productions SACD, the treble cacophony is bathed in a cushion of hall ambience that is far more realistic and less strident. This music does not sound shrill in the concert hall and it doesn't here. ... The Pines of the Janiculum is in some ways even more amazing with its silky sweet strings, every detail of Respighi's shimmering orchestration and a nightingale suspended in space like no other." — Arthur Lintgen, The Absolute Sound, January 2015
"My initial impressions are pretty clear: the new Analogue Productions RCA Living Stereo SACDs are definitely an improvement over the older BMG/RCA SACDs. In fact, there's no doubt about it in my listening sessions. ... there is a better sense of space, more detail and deeper, richer lower frequencies. ... The dynamics on the APO SACD are better, of a certainty, to my ears. ... This is a remarkable accomplishment." — David W. Robinson, Editor-in-Chief, Positive Feedback Online.
RCA's "golden age" was more like a "golden minute" - in a scant period, roughly from 1958 to 1963, the beginning of the stereo era - pure Valve amplification helped produce recordings demonstrating unparalleled fidelity and warmth, lifelike presence and midband illumination.
A highly sought-after RCA shaded dog Living Stereo title, the performance and sonics found within rate a 10/10. A must have - the dynamics are monstrous!
The dynamics on the AP SACD are better, of a certainty, to my ears. There's also a more nuanced sense of correct presentation of the strings...real bows on real violins. This is a remarkable accomplishment...more than I was expecting when I ordered the AP RCA Living Stereo Series (both SACD and LP), frankly. I was thinking that this would be better… but this much improvement? No, I admit that I'm pleasantly surprised!
Analogue Productions are taking some of the most significant treasures from our archives of classical recording masterpieces, and are turning them into new reference-quality gems. Extremely impressive... this is a very strong recommendation of "BUY!" to our PF readers! Positive Feedback
Whichever other Respighi tone poem recordings you ultimately purchase, you MUST own this one. Since the early ‘60s it has been the standard by which all others have been judged, and in terms of both sound and performance, it has never really been surpassed.
The final march of Pines is simply incredible: thundering bass drum, crashing cymbals and gongs, bellowing brass - nobody since has brought the whole thing off with the same combination of excitement and discipline!
Packaged in the original tip-on jacket facsimiles that precisely duplicate the original cover art, including the "Living Stereo" LSC numbers and "Shaded Dog" label. These new versions are clearer than the originals and warmer and richer than past reissues!
Multi-channel/Stereo SACD playable on all CD players.
