Limited Edition -  Hybrid SACD Plays on All CD Players

Jazz, man it does not get any better than this in performance and re mastering. I am so loving these SACD remasters. While it is Billie, the musicians shine in all Jazz splendour. This is a must.5/5 CDreview

It is undeniable that Billie Holiday's singing changed in her later years. Her voice darkened and shifted to a lower range. Her economy of means distilled her sound to its expressive essence, a kind of heightened speech. The classic 1957 Ververelease Songs For Distingue Lovers, has also deepened and become burnished with time.

Maybe it's that still-arresting word distingué; maybe it's that iconic, tinted image of Lady Day on the cover. All in all, the legendary Norman Granz produced set features what is arguably the singer's best studio work of the '50s. Iconic accompaniment from the likes of Harry Edison (trumpet), Ben Webster (tenor sax), Jimmy Rowles (piano), Barney Kessel(guitar), Red Mitchell (bass) and Alvin Stoller (drums) never hurts either.

Mastered by George Marino at Sterling Sound from the original master tapes to vinyl and PCM. The DSD was sourced from the PCM. George listened to all of the different A/D converters he had before he chose which to use, and he felt the George Massenburg GML 20 bit A/D produced the best and most synergistic sound for the project.

This product is a Hybrid SACD designed to play in both CD and SACD players, as well as all SACD-compatible DVD players.

"...because Billie is that rare artiste who cannot and will not have anything to do with a song, which story doesn't meet with her understanding and approval; literally, Billie tells her songs rather than sings them as far as the lyrics are concerned, yet, withal, treating the melody as strikingly as any instrumentalist." - Norman Granz
