Michael Rabin managed to be one of the most talented and tragic violin virtuosi of his generation. Hailed as a child prodigy, his talent matured gracefully into an adult level, but he failed to follow in his emotional growth, resulting in a cutting short of his career. He never reached the age of 36, yet remains one of the most fondly remembered of virtuoso violinists for listeners and fellow musicians. In the 1950s, Rabin signed with Capitol-EMI, for which he recorded the most important part of his legacy, including the Paganini Violin Concerto No. 1 in D Major and the Glazounov Violin Concerto in A Minor.

Alexander Glazunov:
. Violin Concerto in A Minor, Op 82
Paganini:
Violin Concerto No. 1 in D major, op. 6.

Year of recording: 1955
His special talent for the work of the legendary Genoese virtuoso had long proved the young musicians: A selection of the 24 Caprices was published in 1950. There was Rabin 14, a year later he played the first violin concerto in Carnegie Hall. At the time of this record recording, he was 19, and at that time, as today, it is fascinating that such a young man does not succumb to the temptation to put the murderous playing technique necessary for mastering the score in the foreground - on the contrary, these practically disappear In favor of pure musicality. With such esprit, with such a feeling for the melodic language of Paganini, this concert was hardly ever heard again. The only violin concerto by Alexander Glasunow is a true counterpart to its sound. But Rabin, too, proves to be a very sensitive interpreter and lays himself in the typical Russian, highly-romantic vocal lines of the violin part. His extraordinary technique is particularly evident - but also in completely unobtrusive nature - in the line connecting the two sets cadence that you want to hear it again immediately ... - these Testament Reissue shines with amazing mono sound!
