Steve Reichs iconic 1974 3LP set is re-presented in its original form, with unique new documentation all in celebration of his 80th birthday in October this year.
In an extended article accompanying the set and included as part of the original LP leaflet, David Butchart traces the history of the making of the recordings as documented in a remarkable series of letters between Steve Reich and his producer Rudolf Werner. This covers the inception of the project, its release and marketing. This is the first time this correspondence has been published.
Originally released in 1974 in a 3LP set, and now re-presented in 180-gram heavyweight vinyl pressed by Optimal, with new, unique documentation,
Drumming was a landmark recording in Steve Reichs early career. This is the first time the recordings are being offered on LP since their original release.
Recorded in the Polydor Studios in Hamburg in January 1974, the set was recognized as a breakthrough in Reichs career. It comprised his longest work to date, Drumming of 1970-71, lasting nearly an hour and a half, and two newer works of 1973, Six Pianos and Music for Mallet Instruments, Voices and Organ.
Each release includes a voucher with a unique code to download the digital audio files (MP3) of the full album for free.
