Last year, the trio of Norwegian pianist Oddgeir Berg presented a successful debut album with "Before Dawn"; not even a whole year later, they are already following the next album with "In The End Of The Night". Already the first bars of the opener "Vagabond" make clear: Berg and his colleagues have lost nothing of their genuine joy of playing, quite the opposite. Full of energy and exuberant virtuosity, the songs are just bubbling out of the speakers, but also leave room for minimalistically-knit melodies and introspective moments.

All three musicians get all facets of sound out of their instruments, and also electronic sprinkling and sound experiments are cleverly used. Scandinavia is rich in top-class piano jazz trios, but this proves more and more as one that you should definitely remember
