Regardless of your musical tastes—and no doubt some will find this overly "glossy" and mannered— I guaranty you that Potions is among the best sounding new records (or SACDs) you are likely to hear this year or next, or the year after that. The instrumental timbre and textures are utterly natural and effortless and transparency is "you are there". Ms. Stanley's voice is recorded with equal transparency, clarity and verisimilitude. Yes, it is still possible to produce recordings "like they used to". Credit Lyn Stanley here for putting her mouth where her money is and succeeding sonically and most importantly artistically. Potions takes her and the listener higher. Sound 11/10 Music 9/10 Michael Fremmer Analogue Planet Dec 2014
HiFi News - a "Superb" album by Ken Kessler Sound 90%
The sound is simply stunning. Let me say that one more time in case you didn’t hear me the first time; this is one good sounding LP! I love “Lullaby of Birdland.” You can hear every nuance of her vocals and the instruments. Superb phrasing. I enjoyed every song on these two LPs. Thank you Lyn for such great music that is also recorded so beautifully. Dagogo Review
All tracks for this double LP 45rpm album were mixed and mastered in analog tape. Two of the 15 tracks are original ProTools recordings, one tracks is an analog/ProTools hybrid, and the other 12 tracks are pure analog tape. The musicians are stellar and the music is jazz reinvented in some Pop tunes of the '50s along with wonderful arrangements of jazz standard composed in the same decade - including "Cry Me A River".
Known for her lush low notes, beautiful intonation, rich interpretations and phrasing, Lyn has been described by Scott Yanow as a “superior singer ” and Don Heckman stated she “..is a potentially significant new [jazz] talent. ”
