Ludwig van Beethoven: Symphony No. 9 Op. 125 - the Berliner Philharmoniker under the direction of Claudio Abbado
Abbado's new cycle of Beethoven symphonies is clearly of a different kind, faster, lighter in tone, more 'Italian' - especially the ninth ... Focusing on the pace, logic and transparency of the composition, Abbado brings Beethoven a great deal effectively in this distinguished circle of musically obsessed, whose music he has always directed in this way. In its best moments, the new technology produces sounds of astonishing transparency, I've never heard the Finale of the Ninth Symphony so refined and clear, and recorded, the composition of the inner part, vocals and choir crystal clear ... they are those recorded in the studio 4th and 9th 'live', which stand out clearly in my memory.
