No one who attended the recording session where Ricci made these unusual recordings will forget the sight that awaited him when he entered the studio: the long table, flanked by two armed Pinkerton detectives, on which no less than fifteen of the world's most valuable Violins were lying ... Ricci took one violin after the other, fixed his feet on the yellow chalk markings that marked the prescribed distance from the microphones, and played a piece on each instrument that was chosen in such a way that the violin was optimal brought to bear.
