Oehms - OC050 - 180 Gram Virgin Vinyl - 1,000 Limited Edition

"The cellist Hans-Eberhard Dentler has set Bach's last composition, whose original instrumentation has not been recorded, for violin, viola, cello, double bass and bassoon and recorded it with top-class Italian musicians. The peculiar mystery of the "Art of the Fugue", its seemingly simple, rational, geometric blueprint, but so complex and nuanced that it can never decode to the last detail, here fascinates with a burning, in musical dialogue arising intensity which one can not escape from the first tone on. At least as enthralling is the story behind the recording of the young man from rich home, who is to become a doctor and it will be - but never practiced. Born in 1947, Hans-Eberhard Dentler trained as a cellist with Pierre Fournier and found his home in Tuscany. Here he founded a Bach society, organized Bach festivals and bite into the> Art of Fugue <, to which he dedicated over 30 years of his life and on which he published in 2004 a highly acclaimed by international experts book and which he finally with his > Ensemble L'Arte della Fuga <has recorded. The instrumentation and the discreetly changed order of the pieces, among other things, he derives from mathematical theorems of Pythagoras, which is presumed to be historically sound - and a little out of step. The result, however, tears with. The decades of research and wrestling seem to be music, if, for example, the bassoon in the last canon makes a meditative journey through the string world, or in the last piece, the famous quadruple fugue, not a static conclusion, but also a path is described, which then, shatteringly simple, simply breaks off. Dieter Oehms celebrates the 15th anniversary of his dedicated label with this unusual and deserving recording, which also appears in a noble vinyl edition.«(Andreas Falentin in concerti, 1 May 2017)

"This wonderfully vocally performed 'Art of the Fugue' remains spiritually high and sounds incredibly human." (Audio, September 2017)

"... the vinyl edition of this new release conveys a magic that you can not escape from can. "(RONDO, Guido Fischer)

Hans-Eberhard Dentler, a graduate medical physician but also an outstanding cellist and pupil of the renowned Pierre Fournier and founder of a Bach Society in Italy, has occupied himself with this opus over the course of many years. Because he finally wanted to realise Bach's score in a manner true to its spirit and sound, he found a concept for his ensemble 'L‘Arte della Fuga' that unifies its more profound scholarly background with practical musical and artistic aspects. The puzzle of this work can only be solved when one grasps its roots in the sphere of Pythagorean musical thinking. Dentler's edition, scored for violin, viola, violoncello, double bass and bassoon is a well thought-out arrangement of movements that will soon be published by Schott Verlag in Mainz.
