Good Enough to challenge the very best at this price level Awarded 5 Stars in What Hi-Fi?
For the money, the 6 Perspex SB is a truly impressive record player in both looks and sound. Sure, the Rega RP8 digs out a little more detail, but it offers less sonic depth and breadth, and costs £300 more. There are a couple of design elements that could do with a tweak, but overall this is a complete and hugely desirable package.Looks amazing, sounds amazing, and costs less than you’d think – a true hi-fi bargain. I found that the 6Perspex turntable will allow an accomplished system to reach a high level of performance – a level of performance beyond normal expectations considering the 6Perspex’s very reasonable price. So if you are looking for a table that is solidly put together, capable of clean and honest sound that won’t break the bank, then you owe it to yourself to give the 6Perspex table an audition. You may find its advanced design which includes a magnetic sub chassis support, the generous use of sorbothane, a high quality motor and a modern tonearm provides just the right mix of performance virtues to meet your needs.- Hometheatrehifi
Overall the Project 6 Perspex SB offers a lovely looking package that is easy to use and allows for improvements to boost its already good performance much further HIFI PIG - Recommended
Build Quality: Excellent build and finish
Sound Quality: Detailed, clean and transparent with good sound staging that can be tweaked to take it further
Value for Money: Excellent considering the competition is tough at this price point. Even better when you factor in package deals with the Quintet moving coils
Great build quality, excellent looks and very good sound to boot. Tweakable, a plus point for enthusiasts wanting to experiment
"This is an Impressive Turntable"
The Pro-Ject Perspex turntable is constructed using a visually stunning, clear acrylic plinth. Floating above the plinth is a sophisticated sub-chassis system made of resonance-free Corian and suspended by magnetic fields instead of springs or other physical supports that might transmit vibration.
The resonance-optimized platter is special, too. It uses a sandwich construction incorporating a finely balanced 11.8"-diameter, 4.4-lb. platter bonded to a 4mm-thick flat-ground layer of vinyl for the playing surface. It comes with a threaded record clamp.
According to Stephen Mejias at Stereophile.com, "One of my favorite systems at CES 2011: A Pro-Ject Perspex turntable ($2000) featuring magnetic isolation to prevent acoustic feedback, a carbon fiber tonearm
"Five Stars" from What Hi-fi? Magazine
The Perspex won a top rating of Five Stars from What Hi-fi? magazine. "This is an impressive turntable. It has an authoritative sound underpinned by low frequencies that lack for nothing with weight and power."
New 9cc Evolution Tonearm
A new 9" tonearm, the 9cc Evolution, incorporates a conical carbon fiber arm tube with integrated headshell made of a single piece of carbon fiber and new ultra-rigid bearing assembly to give you the ability to use more massive and lower compliant moving coil cartridges. The headshell and conical armtube are formed from a single piece of carbon fiber for maximum rigidity and resonance control. The armtube stills allows azimuth adjustments, despite the fixed headshell. The vertical tracking angle is also adjustable. Nominal speeds are 33-1/3 rpm and 45 rpm.
Details and Accessories
Chassis-mounted female RCA connectors on the rear panel allow you to use any single ended interconnect cables. The finish is transparent acrylic with black details. Included with the Perspex are a dust cover, a spirit level, a record clamp, and adjustable Sorbothane-damped aluminum cone feet.
The resonance-optimised platter is a sandwich construction utilising a fine-balanced medium density fibre platter weighing 2Kg and a 4mm thick flat-ground layer of vinyl and a screw-down metal record clamp.
Connection to the phono input of the amplifier can be made with connecting cables of your taste through the gold plated phono sockets and earth screw. A standard cable is provided.
External power supply avoids potential electro-mechanical interference.
Counterweight shaft lowered to record level reduces cantilever forces and dynamic wow when playing warped records.
Solid armbase permits accurate height adjustment of armtube and VTA (vertical tracing angle).
Single-screw fixing of armtube allows rotation for easy adjustment of needle azimuth despite fixed headshell.
Silicone-damped armlift can be adjusted to suit working height of the arm.
The internal wiring consists of flexible high-purity copper from the headshell right through to the gold-plated phono sockets.
