Another release from our series Analog Pearls.
When the tape of this production fell into my hands after a long time, I remembered how I met Chris Jones. It was Charlie Carr, who worked in an army shop in southern Germany and procured for me a sensational power amplifier (Crown DC-300) for the time. As thanks, I offered him a recording in our studio. Charlie appeared with Chris Jones, who was to accompany him on this recording. That was the beginning of a brilliant musical journey with Chris Jones. - Günter Pauler 2019
Sound-wise, the 40-year-old audiophile recordings convince as Analog Pearls with wonderful fine dynamics, a beautiful sense of space, great resolution and sonorous vocals. A gold treasure. - (Audio, September 2018)
True to the title, this is a real analogue pearl that Günter Pauler of Stockfisch Records has dug up from the archives. Already three years before Chris Jones released his debut "No Looking Back" on Stockfisch in 1982, the singer-songwriter, who died much too early in 2006, had already sat in the label's studio, not as a singer, but as a guitar accompanist for his colleague Charlie Carr, who in turn owed Günter Pauler the studio session as a friendship service. Now these recordings finally see the light of day: Carr and Jones play traditional and self-written between blues, country and folk, Carr's dark voice convinces, and Jones nimble and rhythmically accurate grooving guitar playing makes this disc a pleasure for any acoustic guitars -Vinyl - Fan.
