The recordings are now available in unprecedented sound quality. The original analogue recordings from 1972/73 form the basis of Christoph Stickel's unobtrusive "refurbishing" which aims to avoid any artistic intervention. You, the valued listener, will be transported back into the sound engineer's chair at the time of recording.

It is not presumptuous to assert that meet two monumental events of Western music history in Friedrich Gulda recording of the Well-Tempered Clavier. Firstly, the special plane this recording: It dates from the years 1972-73, and represents the culmination and endpoint of the cooperation between the Austrian pianist and Villingen sound wizard Hans Georg Brunner-Schwer Since 1969 Gulda had the excellent studio technology in the Black Forest for. used cycles of Beethoven, Debussy and Mozart as well as his own works.

You can still see the spot the markers, which was fixed with millimeter precision the position of the instrument in order to achieve optimal Klanggebung. And exactly this is what makes Gulda's interpretation to today as important as daring. The close miking at the strings takes the listener any possibility of distance of Bach's work, throwing him straight into it through a physical experience. The instrument itself is the stereo space, the extreme dynamics allows for a wide range of emotions, from delicate intimacy to unbridled extroversion. Secondly, the work itself: With the complete passage of the preludes and fugues in all 24 keys Johann Sebastian Bach had created a cycle of works for the development - brought temperament a quantum leap forward - today we take for granted.

At the same time Bach underlined the cosmic dimension of his work: He deliberately left open, in which "Clavieren", ie the time available keyboard instruments (clavichord, harpsichord or organ), the pieces were to play. And therefore emphasized the independent of the mechanics, the divine content of his music. The republication of Guldaschen recordings appear the 85th anniversary of the 2000 deceased pianist and transmits this encounter of two geniuses special account: not Here is a direct copy of the master tapes, the sound character of the originals reproduces unchanged for the first time since the seventies, the dynamics " corrected ". In addition, the handset is in the spending on 5 LPs  the original accompanying material with labels and booklets, the original comments Gulda, and new texts of Gulda confidant Thomas Knapp and the present sound engineer Thorsten Wyk.

And so Gulda Bach can finally experience the way it was intended by the artist: to be as eruptive as timeless encounter of mind and emotion over two and a half centuries.
